Gummada began his public sector career with Florida Department of Transportation (DOT). For 11 years, he led Florida DOT Transportation Planning, Freeway and ITS Operations and Tolling and pricing programs for transportation programs initiated in Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Miami areas. Following Florida DOT, Gummada joined Washington State Department of Transportation’s executive leadership team and led state-wide operations programs. Following this, he had an operations leadership role at Virginia Department of Transportation and a lead Implementation role for Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) Reliability and Operations programs at TRB National Academies.

In 2012, he joined AASHTO as the Program Director for Operations. In his current and previous assignments, Gummada played a critical lead role in research, development and implementation of state-of-the-art TSMO and operations safety programs. He led the establishment and sustainment of best TSMO practices in traffic engineering, freight operations, ITS, and safety. Gummada also successfully established programs aligning TSMO strategies with current ITS technologies and emerging initiatives including Connected Vehicle and Autonomous Vehicle technologies, Mobility on Demand (MoD) and Mobility as a Service (MaaS), Smart City and Smart Corridor Programs, Tolling & Pricing Strategies, Integrated Corridor Programs and Active Traffic Management Programs through active coordination with State DOTs, Local Governments, USDOT, ITE, TRB, ITSA, ITS World Congress, & other Association partners
