November 2010 Edition

Dear [fname],

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the 2nd International Rural Roads Convention, in Jinan, China. This event was organised by the IRF and hosted by our member, the China Highway & Transportation Society (CHTS). It was a truly remarkable event and I would like to congratulate and thank CHTS for having arranged such a successful convention. You will find a more extensive article dedicated to it in this newsletter.

We are quickly approaching the Board of Directors Meeting which will be held this year in New Delhi, India on 24 November 2010 in conjunction with the 5th IRF Regional Conference on Road Safety. This conference has become a highly anticipated event attended by hundreds of delegates. Also this year promises to be an enriching experience given the significant improvements of India’s road safety performance as the IRF India advances in its campaign to reduce fatalities by 50% by 2012.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the deadline for submissions for the Innovation Award for Road Transport in Developing Countries (inaroad) is 30 November 2010. This award, rewarded with a noteworthy prize, will give your work international and highly prestigious exposure. Don’t miss the deadline!

Don’t forget to join the new IRF Committee on Road Finance & Economics. If you have not yet expressed your interest, you can still do so until 17 November 2010 by sending an email to Caroline Visser at cvisser@irfnet.org.

We hope you will enjoy reading this newsletter. As always, we have been very busy on your behalf.
