July 2009 Edition

Dear [fname],

One of IRF's main objectives is to make roads safer; a secure, shared environment that serves all users, from 60t trucks right down to pedestrians.

By 2030, deaths from traffic injuries will be the 5th cause of mortality worldwide. Already, road accidents are the number one cause of death for young people in their prime ages (15-29). With 1.3 million road fatalities occurring each year throughout the world, plus some 500 million injuries, the issue of road safety has become a priority that needs to be addressed by all stakeholders and tackled from all sides.

As will see in this newsletter, IRF is very active in the field of Road Safety. At the political level, we have recently participated in four workshops organised by the United Nations and other international bodies.

On a practical level, we are finalising a key seminar on "Safer Roads" to be held in Cairo, Egypt, on 12 October 2009. This one-day event is followed and directly linked to an equally important seminar on Private/Public Partnerships.

We would like to encourage you to join us in Cairo to learn more about concrete actions sector can undertake to make roads safer. Improving infrastructure is the first and the fastest way to lower the number of victims.

Don't miss this important event. The number of places is strictly limited to promote result oriented work and discussion. So we encourage you to register as quickly as possible. Click here for the registration form and preliminary programme.

Kind regards,

Sibylle Rupprecht

News Flash

We are proud to announce that AMMAN Switzerland AG, a leading supplier of machines, systems and services for the construction industry worldwide, has become the first Gold Sponsor for IRF’s pioneering Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Calculator.

AMMAN's support for the GHG calculator reflects the company's firm commitment to the environment and ecologically safer products, and is in keeping with its longstanding reputation for innovation and novel solutions that deliver both economic and conservation benefits.

The sponsorship represents a tremendous boost to IRF's efforts in developing and promoting the GHG calculator and we very much hope that AMMAN’s exemplary lead will shortly be followed by many other Gold, Platinum and Silver sponsors.
