![]() | Bazil Govender oversees the strategic and operational portfolio for SABOA and all its stakeholders. He also heads up the SABOA Secretariat office. Bazil joined SABOA in January this year, and has 33 years’ industry experience in the transport and logistics sector, including in road freight logistics and public transport. He is responsible for managing all the association’s affairs, and represents SABOA in liaison and interaction with all stakeholders in the bus sector, including national, provincial and local government; parliamentary portfolio committees; provincial legislatures; other industry associations; organised labour; passenger forums; bargaining councils; and regulatory authorities. Bazil is also responsible for providing and coordinating industry comments and inputs on draft legislation, government policies and reports affecting the bus industry, and managing media liaison, corporate communications, social media and other reputation management of the association. |
![]() | Nico McLachlan has worked in various parts of the African transport sector over the past 20 years, including acting as industry transition facilitator to affected minibus taxi operators in the Cape Town MyCiti Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) project (phase1), the N2 Express IRT project, and the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit project (phase 1). Nico was project manager of the Cape Town minibus taxi industry transformation programme and was responsible for the design of the three-year paratransit capacity-building programme, supported by Transport for Cape Town, the city’s transit authority. Nico recently worked as public transport institutional and contracts advisor to the government of Rwanda on the review and development of second-generation public transport contracts in the city of Kigali, and is currently working on a paratransit business model improvement project in Kampala, Uganda. |
![]() | William Dachs took over as CEO of the Gautrain Management Authority (GMA) on 1 February 2020, after serving as the commuter service COO from 2014. Before that he was the GMA’s technical services senior executive manager. Dachs is a professional engineer registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa and has degrees in civil engineering and law. |
