IRF General Assembly was convened in a hybrid format during Intertraffic. Approval of the IRF Annual Report 2021, elections of new Directors to the Board, new IRF officers, and a new IRF President were on the agenda for this GA spring meeting. Mr Anouar Benazzouz (Director General of Moroccan Highways) has been unanimously elected IRF President. Mr Benazzouz will be taking up the function at the end of the mandate of Mr Bill Halkias in May. The GA and the IRF Board of Directors have marked their appreciation to President Halkias by extending him a special certificate of recognition.
“The 3 years of my mandate have gone by very quickly and definitively they have not been the easiest ones given the Covid pandemic. Yet, I look back at three very positive years for our Federation” said Mr Halkias addressing the IRF General Assembly. “We have expanded our reach and activities; we have further grown our reputation as a professional body and a trustful partner; we have consolidated existing partnerships and developed new ones; we have further professionalized and modernised our internal processes and our communication and last but not least we have kicked-off preparations for what will be a great IRF World Congress in Istanbul 2024”, he added.
“I will be finishing my mandate as IRF President at the end of May, but this does not mean I am leaving the IRF family. You can count on all my support as Board Member and immediate past President. It gives me pride to end my mandate knowing there’s a great team lined up to pick up this work and move it forward” he concluded.
Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors and of the IRF membership, Mr Kiran Kapila – IRF President Emeritus – congratulated Mr Halkias for the excellent work done during his term as President of the IRF (2019-2022) and presented him with a special certificate of recognition.
