With the Decade of Action in its final stages, Morocco redoubles its efforts to ensure that road safety remains high on the agenda for the entire African Continent. Actively engaged in Africa since decades, IRF is pleased to support the 1st African Road Safety Forum being convened in Marrakech, Morocco on 13-15 November under the patronage of his Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020) called on countries to implement concrete measures to make their roads safer. At the African level , a continental plan of action was developed during an expert meeting in November 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by the Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the United Nations African Union. On the eve of the end of this decade, and although some countries have made significant progress, the situation of road safety in Africa remains a matter of great concern.
Committed to different levels alongside African countries, Morocco will host the 1st Forum on Road Safety in Africa. Several African Ministers but also Mayors of African cities have already confirmed their attendance. So have key regional and international organisations and private sector companies active in Africa. The aim of the Forum is to create an African framework for reflection on road safety in Africa and also to advance discussion on the setting-up of an African Road Safety Observatory.
IRF will be hosting a dedicated workshop to present a new piece of work done on road data. The new tool will be beneficial to and support the work of road safety observatories in Africa and in other parts of the world. Data and capacity building will also be central in another session being jointly organised by the Global Alliance of Road Safety NGOs and IRF. Last but not least, the Forum will also include a dedicated session on the EU-funded SaferAfrica Project (www.saferafrica.eu ) in which IRF is actively involved as member of the project consortium.
Note that registration to the Forum is free of charge but there are a limited number of seats available. Registrations can be made on-line here: www.arsforum2018.ma/en/
Limited sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are available for the Forum. You can contact the IRF Secretariat in Geneva if interested info@irfnet.ch
